Dedicated to those individuals who pioneered our farming, ranching, oil, banking, commerce, and industry.

A tour of HERITAGE INN, Artesia's first Bed and Breakfast, is a tour through time. As you step from busy Main Street under the shelter of the raspberry colored canopy that stretches from the leaded glass window of the entrance door to the curbing, you enter another world. Quite suddenly, you step into carpeted elegance, and the peace of another century settles over you like a velvet cloak. As you ascend the long carpeted stairway, the high airy light glances on the breakfast tables, on an antique sideboard bearing an abundant flower arrangement, and on a huge flowering wreath on the pristine walls.
Yes, here is another time.

The HERITAGE INN is a "first" in a double sense. The first Bed & Breakfast for Artesia growing in the first building of any business importance that was constructed in 1905. It was the year that Artesia formally became a town and the year that electricity was first turned on in the evening light of a century ago. The task of reconstruction was enormous. Bulldozers, cement mixers and carpenters took over the gigantic construction job of renovating the entire two-story building.

From the dust arose beauty, good taste and elegance. Sensitive to the sound construction of the past, many features were preserved. The eight-foot high windows were left untouched as were the original hardwood flooring in three of the rooms, and the three skylights that flood the hallway and the manager's apartment with light and air. Adding light is the open air deck built at the end of the hallway glimpsed through a glass door.

The hallway walls are adorned by art which softens the tall austerity of the stately building.

GUEST RECOMMENDATIONS

"...a real "homey" feel. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. It's a great location, secure and safe.
Debbie Resinger,
St Croix, US Virgin Islands

"We purposely plan our route to include a stopover at the Heritage Inn because we feel so at home there. The accommodations are lovely and so much more inviting than a drab motel room! Heritage Inn provides so many homey touches - a large reception and lounging areas; plenty of good reading material; a refrigerator stocked with drinks; and, of course, a delicious breakfast in the morning. From the manager's warm welcome to the comfort of the rooms and convenience to Artesia's restaurants, the Heritage Inn can't be beat for weary travelers!"
Ann Ivins,
Houston, TX

"...wonderful "home like" atmosphere with excellent service that's not intrusive."
Ken Stevens,
